Terms of Service
Last updated: October 14, 2026
By accessing or using MapleSpike's API, web portal, MCP tools, or SDKs ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
MapleSpike provides a unified API for Canadian government data, including but not limited to: parliamentary committees, lobbying registries, procurement records, regulatory filings, court decisions, and statistical data. The Service includes REST API access, MCP server integration for AI agents, TypeScript and Python SDKs, and a web-based data explorer.
The Service searches and presents information from government and other public-sector sources. License terms vary by publisher, dataset, API, and jurisdiction. A public listing or a source portal does not by itself grant reuse rights. Where the source supplies license metadata, the Service may display it as publisher-provided information; that display is not an independent legal review or a grant by MapleSpike. Consult the original source terms before copying, redistributing, or using source material commercially.
Some sources are served in restricted forms by design. Committee and other parliamentary content is discovery-only in every tier: metadata, short factual summaries, and links to the official source — never full text, and never part of bulk export or paid features. Statistics Canada data is served in aggregate form only; it is not linked or merged to identify any individual, business, or organization. Court and securities material from CanLII, SEDAR+ and SEDI, and news feeds, are served as citations, metadata, and links with short excerpts only. Federal law reproductions carry a "not an official version" notice.
You agree NOT to:
- Use the Service to violate any Canadian law or regulation
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or circumvent rate limits or authentication
- Copy, redistribute, or commercially use source material without first checking the terms and restrictions that apply to that specific source and dataset
- Use the Service for automated scraping that exceeds your plan's rate limits
- Submit queries designed to extract personal information about identifiable individuals
- Bulk or automated scrape CanLII, SEDAR+, SEDI, or other sources whose terms do not permit it; use the citations, metadata, and links the Service provides instead
- Use Statistics Canada data to identify or link an individual, business, or organization
- Present reproductions of federal law or Canada Gazette content as an official version
- Use AI-generated content from the Service without verification for factual accuracy
Free tier includes 1,000 API calls per month with no credit card required. Paid plans — Pro ($50 CAD/month) and Business ($200 CAD/month) — unlock higher rate limits and additional features as described on our pricing page.
Payment. Subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD). Taxes (e.g. GST/HST) are added at checkout where applicable.
Billing cycle. Paid plans are billed in advance on a monthly cycle. Your subscription renews automatically until cancelled.
Cancellation. You may cancel at any time from your account dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain paid access until then. No partial-period refund is issued on cancellation, but you keep what you paid for through period end.
Refunds. If you are dissatisfied within 14 days of your first payment on a new paid plan, contact [email protected] for a full refund of that charge — no questions asked. Renewal charges beyond the first 14 days are non-refundable, except where required by law or where a service outage breaches our stated SLA.
Failed payments. If a renewal charge fails, we retry and may downgrade your tier to Free at the end of the grace period; no data is deleted.
Our refund and cancellation terms are also summarized at checkout. By subscribing you acknowledge having read this section and our Privacy Policy.
Responses may include provenance fields such as the source name, source URL, SHA-256 hash, and publisher-provided license metadata when available. Check the original publisher's terms for any attribution duties that apply to your use; Quill's citation is not a legal review or a substitute for those terms.
Use the attribution wording and link shown by the original publisher for the specific dataset. The citation supplied by the Service is a convenience and may not meet every source's terms.
Where provided, SHA-256 hashes and quality metadata can help assess data integrity and freshness. Response fields vary by endpoint and source. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of source data.
For legal or regulatory decisions, verify information directly with the original source. A citation URL or content hash may not be available for every response and does not establish reuse rights.
MapleSpike is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of the Service, including but not limited to decisions made based on data served by the API.
Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced via the changelog and emailed to registered users at least 30 days before taking effect.
